A man has been found dead in a house fire in Oldham - being investigated by police.
Greater Manchester Police and the fire service attended the blaze at a bungalow on Marches Close, Royton, at around 5.35am this morning (Wed).
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 5.35am on Wednesday 3 December, three fire engines from Oldham, Hollins and Chadderton fire stations plus the turntable ladder from Manchester Central fire station were called to a fire involving a detached bungalow on Marches Close, off Oldham Road, Royton.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance alongside partners to make the scene safe.”
Oldham Road was closed in both directions while multiple fire engines tried to contain the fire.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police added: “Officers responded to reports of a fire at a property off Oldham Road, Royton (today) at around 6am.
“A body was discovered of a man who sadly died inside the property. Enquiries are ongoing at this time."
