A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after the occupants of a property suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital.

A joint investigation was launched alongside Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the man was arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Andy Barrett said: “Due to the proximity of the fire, the occupants of the property suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“We want people to understand that incidents like this are not acceptable in our community. The consequences of this suspected arson attack could have been very different, and I am thankful to the officers who have worked quickly to arrest a suspect.
