Oldham is set to benefit from a landmark £31.5 million investment through the Greater Manchester Good Growth Fund, announced by Mayor Andy Burnham.
This funding will kickstart the flagship Prince’s Gate development, delivering 331 new homes next to Oldham Mumps station – including 75 social housing units – as part of the wider plan to create 2,000 new homes across Oldham town centre over the next decade.
This marks the beginning of a new era for Oldham town centre. Prince’s Gate will help create an entirely new neighbourhood, putting homes right on the doorstep of everything Oldham has to offer – shops, entertainment, hospitality, and first-class public transport links.
The investment forms part of the first wave of the £1bn GM Good Growth Fund, designed to deliver regeneration across the city region on a scale not seen in decades.
Across Greater Manchester, the initial £400m allocation will unlock nearly 3,000 homes, 22,000 jobs and 2 million square feet of employment space.

Cllr Arooj Shah (pictured above), Leader of Oldham Council, welcomed the announcement: “Prince’s Gate represents the confidence and ambition we have for Oldham. This funding means hundreds of new homes, including much-needed social housing in a brilliant location right next to Mumps station.
“It is about building a vibrant, modern neighbourhood and setting the tone for the next chapter of Oldham’s regeneration.
“This shows exactly how the Greater Manchester Combined Authority works for places like Oldham. We are stronger when we work together, and today’s investment is a clear example of the city region backing our plans and backing our future.
“We know how urgently we need more housing, particularly affordable housing, and this investment helps us deliver real results for residents.”
The Prince’s Gate scheme sits within Oldham’s broader regeneration pipeline, which also includes the proposed Sports Town Mayoral Development Corporation and Northern Roots, the UK’s largest urban farm and eco park.
As part of the programme, the Prince’s Gate car park has now closed so that enabling works can begin ahead of construction starting later this year.
