Sister act saves school's festival

The Mayor of Tameside Cllr Kath Shaw visited Hyde’s Greenfield Primary School in July 1989 to say a special ‘thank you’ to three sisters.

Delima, Lubna and Khusba Begum, aged ten, nine and seven were in a group of pupils from the school who had been rehearsing a Bengali dance for a multi-cultural festival at Ashton Town Hall.

When one of the youngsters had to drop out unexpectedly for family reasons, Delima, Lubna and Khusba were determined that the show must go on.

They decided to teach their six-year-old sister Leema the routine. Leema was a quick learner who never put a foot wrong and ultimately saved the day.
