One RAF career takes off in style

A Hyde teenager was gunning for glory after completing his training with the Royal Air Force.

Christopher Buxton (pictured) was among 14 airmen qualifying in the millennium year as Leading Aircraftman Gunners at RAF Honington.

His graduating parade was the culmination of a demanding 22 weeks of mental and physical exertion preparing the prospective gunners for all aspects of general service training.

The 18-year-old former Longdendale High School pupil was also a keen sportsman, excelling at cross country running and football as well as playing rugby for Glossop and basketball for Hyde.

Christopher and his fellow recruits received high praise from reviewing officer Group Captain Stephen Anderton for their professionalism.
