More people across all age groups had been taking the plunge at Droylsden Baths since the town’s swimming club launched a learners’ class for adults early in 1969.
Several months on, the class continued to thrive with 30 regular members.
Club secretary Mrs Hirst told the Reporter: “We had had many parents who wished they could swim like their children. Now they realise what they had been missing.”
