Bowled Over: Glamour Girls hit Hasbeens for six in comedy cricket clash.
It was definitely cricket, but this particular brand of the sport, which the Chronicle described as a ‘Test match’, was hardly the stuff you would see at Lords.
It was the annual ‘Glamour Girls verses the Hasbeens’ match which was played at Broadbottom Cricket Club in July 1950. Records show that the village ladies bowled out the men, who had to bat with their ‘wrong hand’ for 63, to win by one run.
The match was played in front of a large crowd and raised £26 for Broadbottom Sports Club. The Chronicle reported that an enjoyable evening was had by all.
