Girls' fashion's making the grade

Working for exams could be fun as more than 30 budding clothes designers from Droylsden Girls’ School discovered when they staged their own in-house fashion show.

Working for exams could be fun as more than 30 budding clothes designers from Droylsden Girls’ School discovered when they staged their own in-house fashion show.

All the clothes on display had been made by the girls for their CSE course ‘Fashion for the individual’.

Parading their designs to an audience of parents and teachers was the perfect ‘dress rehearsal’ on the eve of the examiners arriving for the official assessment.

Paula Smith, 16, said she made all her own clothes. “I don’t buy them, they’re too expensive.” Her dress cost £4 to make but would “probably sell for £20” in the shops.
