Young High Peak artist launches new theatre company

A new community theatre company founded by a young High Peak artist is preparing to stage its first major musical production.

Molly Soden-Freeth, 22, has recently launched Act 2 Performing Arts CIC, a community organisation dedicated to creating performing arts opportunities for young adults aged 16 to 35.

The group’s debut production will be High School Musical On Stage!, based on the hugely popular High School Musical film from Disney, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The show will run from 19th-21st March at New Mills Art Theatre, with all tickets priced at £15.

Molly established Act 2 Performing Arts CIC with the aim of supporting aspiring performers across the High Peak while also creating inclusive opportunities within the arts.

As part of the organisation’s work, she leads accessible dance and drama workshops designed for individuals with disabilities in SEND schools and community groups. The sessions focus on building confidence and encouraging creative expression.

Alongside these inclusive workshops, Act 2 also offers musical theatre rehearsals and performance opportunities for local artists, helping participants develop skills that could support future careers in the performing arts industry.

The upcoming production of High School Musical On Stage! will mark the organisation’s first major performance and bring together a cast of local young performers.

All profits from ticket sales will be reinvested into future musical productions and disability-focused arts projects within the community, helping the organisation continue its work supporting performers and expanding access to the arts.

The production is being brought to life by a dedicated creative team including choreographer Molly Soden-Freeth, musical director Sophie West, and acting director Zoe King.

Molly said she hopes local residents will support the initiative by attending the show and helping the organisation grow.

Those interested in taking part in future productions are also being encouraged to get involved. Anyone who is an actor, dancer or singer and would like to hear about future opportunities can join the organisation’s mailing list.
