Wormstones Fell Race to Honour Late Runner Ian Bennett

Glossop Fell Races - Wormstones New Years Eve Race

Fell Runners Are Old School....That Never Die

This year’s Wormstones Fell Race, hosted by Glossop Fell Races, will take place on New Year’s Eve, offering runners the perfect way to end 2024. This event, will hold special significance as it is dedicated to the memory of Ian Bennett, a seasoned fell runner and much loved figure in the local community, who sadly passed away in November 2024.

The Wormstones Fell Race is a classic short distance fell race covering 4 miles with 1,000 feet of ascent, offering a challenging yet rewarding route for runners. Starting and finishing in Glossop, the race provides stunning views of the High Peak area and an opportunity for participants to test their endurance in true fell running fashion.

This year, the event will be particularly poignant as Glossop Fell Races pays tribute to Ian Bennett. Ian was well known in the local fell running community, not only for his racing achievements but also for his support as a marshal and his genuine camaraderie. A tribute shared by Glossop Fell Races described Ian as "a true gentleman" who was always ready to lend a hand at races across Glossop and Hayfield, no matter the weather.

Ian’s passion for fell running extended beyond the trails; he was the owner of a shop in Hayfield called Leading Edge, where he crafted his own waterproof and windproof jackets - a favourite among walkers and runners. His dedication to the sport and the community was unmatched, and his absence will be felt.

Runners interested in participating in the Wormstones Fell Race can find more information and register on the official event page.

The Glossop fell running community invites all to join the race in Ian’s memory, celebrating his life and his enduring impact on the sport and the local area.
