Work planned for Tintwistle footpath

Sara Scott-Rivers and the path in Tintwistle.

Tintwistle Parish Council is backing a campaign to improve a vital footpath in the village.

The Cinder Path runs from West Drive to New Road and is used by locals to walk to Hadfield.

It cuts several minutes off the journey, but at night the route is dark and uneven.

Local resident Sara Scott-Rivers has begun an online petition to see it improved.

Parish council chairperson Councillor Marianne Stevenson met a representative of Derbyshire County Council's Public Rights of Way team on the path last month.

He informed her that there is a budget for repairs to the path, however as there's already a full programme of repairs for this financial year, it will fall into next year's budget.

The inspector also pledged to look into lighting to make the path safer for people to use at this time of year.
