An iconic Glossop building will be filled with the sound of music as it becomes the home of the Dark Peak Music Foundation.

Relocating from its base of nearly 20 years at Bradbury Community House the move to Victoria Hall was marked with a musical reception attended by the Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Paul Hardy and his wife.

The latest event was one of a series held recently at the Hall which have also included a heritage open day and talks about the Hall’s unique history.

Founder and Principal Musical Director of the Dark Peak Music Foundation Jeff Snowdon said the move mark the start of a new chapter for the Foundation.

“We are really excited to be working in partnership with Glossop Arts Centre and the Friends of the Victoria Hall and to be part of the bigger cultural picture of the area.”

“We are sad to be leaving Bradbury House and are extremely grateful for the years of hospitality they have shown as the music centre.”

DARK PEAK MUSIC FOUNDATION (17)

The Foundation’s move to Victoria Hall will give them more space for their growing ensembles.

They welcome young musicians from Glossop, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Hayfield and the surrounding areas, providing opportunities for players from beginner to advanced levels to play together in one of ten ensembles for strings, wind, brass and percussion.

The Foundation is about to launch a new community orchestra, open to all ages and levels of ability. The aim is to give people the experience of playing together in a fun and non-judgemental setting.
