Spooky season has arrived - and Glossop’s very own Puppy Nanny is back with her much-loved, dog-friendly ‘Tricks for Treats’ event!
Now in its fourth year, the Halloween-themed activity has become a firm favourite for local dogs and their owners, combining a fun seasonal twist with support for the area’s growing number of dog-friendly businesses.
Throughout October, shops and cafés across Glossop and the surrounding villages are taking part by displaying special ‘Tricks for Treats’ posters in their windows. Spot one, pop inside with your pooch, and if your dog performs a trick - whether it’s a simple sit or a full-on doggy dance routine - they’ll be rewarded with a treat from the staff.
“It’s just a bit of fun” says Nicola Davies, Puppy Nanny and owner of the Contented Canines Training School, “and a way to celebrate how many great dog-friendly businesses we have in our area. It encourages owners to get out and about, explore new places, and give their dogs some social time too. And let’s face it - why should kids have all the fun at Halloween?!”
This year’s participating venues include:
1. Hartley's Garden Centre on Cemetery Road
2. Canella on High Street West
3. Fox Pet Stores on High Street West
4. Shepley’s Café on Shepley Street in Old Glossop
5. Sett Valley Café in Birch Vale
6. Pixie Bakes in Tintwistle
7. KIN.DER on Arundel Street
8. The Oakwood on High Street West
9. Glossop Wholefoods on Norfolk Square
10. Harvey Leonards on Norfolk Street
11. Distant Hills Brewery on Hope Street in Old Glossop
Local businesses keen to get involved can still take part. “If you’d like to join in, just get in touch,” says Nicola. “I’ll drop off a poster - you just need to supply the dog treats!”
Posters are appearing in shop windows around town, so keep your eyes peeled and get your dogs ready to perform - and enjoy a howl-oween outing with a difference!
