Parish councillors could install a speed ramp and a gate to stop traffic tearing along a track next to a playing field.
The section of Sexton Street also passes Tintwistle Parish Hall and a bowling green on the way to houses.
To stop the speeders, the council is looking to put a ramp at the start of the unmade section of Sexton Street and possibly at a gate in the wall just before it goes past the tennis courts.
Cllr Shaun Grace said this would slow down vehicles ‘coming in and going out’.
Saying there was access to the tennis courts, he suggested a sign on the gate with the message ‘no through road’.
Cllr Grace added: “It (the gate) will deter people from speeding and if they want to go up by car and play tennis or have a picnic they can.”
The parish council will look into the cost of a gate and a speed ramp before making a decision.
