Tintwistle man found guilty of stalking

Benjamin Leah, 31, of Old Road, Tintwistle, has appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court charged with stalking.

Leah had previously denied the charge but later changed his plea to guilty.

The court heard that Leah harassed a woman by making numerous phone calls, sending messages and emails, attending her property without consent, and sending letters. The offence was contrary to sections 2A(1) and 2A(4) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

The offences took place between 5 May and 15 May 2024 in Glossop.

Magistrates handed Leah a 26-day community order, including a rehabilitation activity requirement. He was also fined £270 and issued with a restraining order, preventing him from having any contact with the victim.

In addition, he was ordered to pay £300 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
