A new study by retirement specialists ‘Taking Care’ has named Glossop as the best place to retire in England.
The study compared several towns and cities and looked at factors such as life expectancy, life-style factors, ambulance wait times, house prices and the cost of care.
Looking at the UK as a whole, Glossop came second, beaten by a mere 0.1% by the Welsh seaside town of Llandudno. Southport came in third and the city of Edinburgh came last.
The study cited it’s success as being close to the beautiful national park and also within easy reach of the lively city of Manchester.
Other favourable factors include the amount of green space, being a great place for scenic walks, the wealth of history, the rich and diverse creative culture and the vibrant live music scene.
Glossop was also found to have the most reasonably priced care.
