Sport sessions at Roughfields put on hold

Sports sessions on an open area between Hadfield and Padfield have been postponed until next year.

Save Roughfields joined forces with Peak Active Sport to provide local children with various activities each Saturday morning.

But organisers say due to the poor weather and Christmas nearly upon us, the last two sessions will be cancelled and held some time in the spring.

Halina Billingham, founder of Save Roughfields, said: "We hope that this joint venture with PAS will be just the start of future sports activities for young people on Roughfields. Maybe we will even get some of the parents involved - you never know!

"We will be looking to apply for future funding to carry on with this project. We believe in our young people and we want to show them that our community cares about them too.

“To all the parents of children who attended, we would be most grateful for your feedback and comments. In depth feedback is best via email at saveroughfields@gmail.com. Your feedback really matters to us as it will help us put together future funding applications for more free activities on Roughfields.

“Finally we want to give a big shout out to the following people who all played a part in helping to make this such a great community event; Steve, Rebecca, Emily and Harry from PAS who did a superb job, Ollie Cross for funding the project, Kayleigh at HPBC for helping with the necessary applications, Matt, Lynne and the team at our local Tesco Express for all the free fruit, Matthew Turner Photography, Paul Kirkham, for taking some fab action shots and Kasey Cooley our events organiser.

"The biggest thanks by far has to go to all the wonderful young people who took part, who were brave enough to overcome their shyness and get stuck in - well done guys and we hope you enjoyed it - of course your comments are by far the most important.”
