Sett Valley Kitchen win at national awards

The Live and Let's Pie award-winning team.

Sett Valley Kitchen, the home of “Live & Let’s Pie”, has won two prestigious awards at the British Pie Awards.

The small Derbyshire team is celebrating national recognition for their handmade pies in their first year as a standalone business, following the sale of the award-winning Sett Valley Café in July 2025. The café was previously voted Restaurant Bar / Café of the Year 2025 at the Glossop and High Peak Business Awards. 

Their Vegan Wild Mushroom & Spinach Pie received a Silver Award, while their signature Kinder Beef & Thornsett Brewery Ale Pie earned Bronze in what is widely considered the Olympics of the pie world. 

This year saw a record-breaking 1,044 pies entered from across the country, with judging taking place on Wednesday 4th March in Melton Mowbray, the UK’s historic capital of pies. Winners were announced at an awards lunch on Friday 6th March. 

Jo from Sett Valley Kitchen said she was thrilled with the result:

“I couldn’t believe it. Our first ever entry into a national awards event and to be recognised with not one but two awards is amazing.” She added, “We are a team of just three and love what we do”. 

Live & Let’s Pie are proud that everything they produce, from pies to cakes, is handmade using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Chef Nick Robinson brings craftsmanship and attention to detail to every pie, while new team member Nicole Sykes has quickly proven herself to be an invaluable addition to the team, described as “being brilliant at everything she does.” 

The awards come during British Pie Week (2nd-9th March), which celebrates Britain’s most iconic culinary creation – the pie. Brits eat over £1 billion worth of pies every year, from hot and cold savoury classics to sweet treats, as well as modern variations including gluten-free, vegan and fusion options. 

Historically, you could say that pies were the original “takeaway” food. The pastry shell originally served as a container and was often discarded rather than eaten. The name “pie” is believed by some to derive from the magpie, a bird known for collecting a variety of items – much like the mixture of ingredients encased inside the pastry. 

Sett Valley Kitchen’s award-winning pies are available both wholesale and retail through selected outlets, and the business is inviting cafés, pubs and restaurants to add their pies to their menus.
