Homeowners are being warned to be extra vigilant and to make sure their property is secure and marked with their house number and postcode.
The warning from police follows reports of two males trying doors and sheds in the Chinley area during the early hours of Friday (29 July).
Officers are also urging people to report any suspicious activity as soon as possible.
