Police advice amid social media scam reports

Derbyshire Police have issued a warning after receiving reports of scams on social media.

The force says local Facebook groups are being targeted by scammers who are posing as trying to help vulnerable people, injured animals or children.

They add that fraudsters are targeting these groups to appeal to people's kind community spirit to help those in need.

Police are advising local residents to do the following before acting on a social media post:

Anyone who sees a suspicious post is asked to report it to the relevant social media platform, as well as the police by calling 101 or reporting it online at https://www.derbyshire.police.uk

People who are deaf or hard of hearing can also text 07800 002414 or email deafsms@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk

You can also anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or by visiting the CrimeStoppers website.
