This morning (Thursday 21st August), pupils gathered excitedly at St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy to collect their GCSE results.
This year’s cohort are those who had to move from primary school into secondary education during the Covid-19 pandemic. National figures show that the number of top grades awarded for GCSEs has risen from last year and remains higher than before the pandemic.
Mike Kays, Headteacher at St Philip Howard CVA, said: "TEAMSPH are incredibly proud of our students' achievements this year. Their dedication, resilience, and hard work have truly paid off, and these results reflect not only their efforts but also the unwavering support from our staff and families.
I’ll never forget talking to some of our Year 11 pupils, after exams had finished - the mix of relief, pride, and excitement was palpable. One student told me, ‘I didn’t think I could do it, but I did.’ That moment summed up what education is all about: helping young people realise their potential.
As a school, we remain committed to nurturing excellence and preparing our young people together on their success journey."
Pupils that the school wanted to give a special mention to include:
Mia Walsh: received 9 of the highest grades.
Eirwen Witchalls: a significant number of the highest grades and all subjects excellent passes.
Samuel George: all top grades.
Lily May Donnelly, Lydia Shaw and Lillie Rawding: all had a number of top grades.
Lucy and Evie Pickford: majority of results were top grades and all strong passes.
Matthew McGarry, Logan Bonney, Jakub Krysa, Nathan Roden: all excellent progress.
After receiving their GCSE results today, students may choose to continue studying A-levels, start a vocational course, begin an apprenticeship, or explore other pathways into work and training.
