Padfield’s green dream set to bloom

Councillor Ollie Cross and two special local supporters will be cutting the ribbon and opening the gates of Temple Street Community Garden in Padfield, on Sunday 14th June at 2pm.

An afternoon of fun, free activities will follow including a painted stone hunt, storytelling, garden games and the opportunity to Befriend a Tree. Refreshments will also be available. Padfield Community Spaces, the charity who manages the Garden, welcomes all to bring a picnic and bring friends to celebrate this great, green achievement.

“This opening has been a long time coming, and it’s only been possible because of the determination and generosity of our supporters and residents” said Pete Tomlin, Chairperson of PCS. “The Trustees are excited to be unlocking the gates to allow visitors access to the site anytime they want. We hope that everyone will enjoy and appreciate the improvements we’ve made to accessibility, biodiversity and the natural features.”

It’s been over five years since the field on Temple Street (once known as Coopers Field) was purchased by Padfield residents at auction, to preserve it as a green space at the heart of their village. PCS took ownership in late 2025 and have since been working hard to prepare it for public access, including changing its official use from ‘agricultural’ to a ‘community garden’. They have also been running events to engage the local community.

“We want everyone who lives in Padfield to feel like the Community Garden is an extension of their home, and for visitors to feel at home here too” said Event Team Leads Joan Joyce and Janis Birchall “We hope you’ll join us at the Grand Opening and for more events and activities in the future.”

The Grand Opening of Temple Street Community Garden runs from 1:30pm - 4pm on Sunday 14th June at Temple Street, Padfield. For more information visit padfieldspaces.com.
