Old Glossop Fete raises over £4,000 for Reuben's Retreat

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Old Glossop Autumn Fete, on Saturday, September 21 Jack Badger, a traditional joinery company based in Old Glossop, hosted the second annual event.

The Shelf Moor fell running race kicked off the day, before the fete began at midday, running through until 9pm. Attendees were treated to a guess the weight of the sheep competition, flower crown workshops, animal petting, forest school activities, falconry displays and pony riding.

Food stalls and local vendors lined Hope Street outside Hawkshead Mill, whilst Jack Badger put on a live traditional joinery demonstration and various local bands and musicians took to the stage to entertain the crowds, with many dancing into the early evening.

The day also garnered profits of £4,447.50 for local charity, Reuben's Retreat, a huge increase on the amount raised for the charity last year.

Volunteers from Reuben's Retreat helped staff the event on the day and raise awareness of the fantastic work that they do. Stacey Kirkpatrick, Head of Income and Engagement at Reubens Retreat said of the day and the money raised:

“We’re incredibly grateful to all the team at Jack Badger for their amazing support. The money raised from the Autumn Fete will make a huge difference to the families we support after child loss and the many children that visit us who may face an uncertain future. We had a great day, and we offer a heartfelt thanks to all who were involved.”

Ben Naylor, Managing Direct of Jack Badger who championed the event said: “We were keen to build on the success of last year’s fete and make this years even more fun for the local community. Seeing so many people from across Glossop enjoying themselves under the backdrop of our workshop was wonderful to see. And what’s even better was that we were able to raise so much money for a such a worthy local charity.”

Based on the support received from local residents, Jack Badger is looking forward to hosting the third Old Glossop Autumn Fete in 2025.
