Local home care company Home Instead High Peak marked World Alzheimer's Month by lighting up the outside of their office at 95 Buxton Road in purple.
Purple is the colour of the Alzheimer's awareness movement, and this impactful display gave the home care company a great opportunity to get the community thinking about how they can support people who are living with the condition.
Around 29 per cent of the company’s clients are living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and the team believe it’s important to join with others during September to raise awareness of the condition.
During the evening of the illumination event, Home Instead warmly welcomed Councillor Stewart Gardner, the Mayor of High Peak, and Councillor Suzanne Wyatt, the Mayor of Stockport. A raffle was held, raising an impressive £611 in support of Alzheimer’s services. Home Instead High Peak generously matched this amount, bringing the total to £1,222 which will be shared between The Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.
Paul Vickers, the owner of Home Instead High Peak, said: "We’re absolutely thrilled to shine a light on such an important issue through this eye-catching campaign. Dementia is close to our hearts, and we are deeply committed to supporting our clients who are living with this condition. We will continue to raise awareness and invest in specialist training, so our clients can live well and fully, while we also support their friends and families.
“By lighting up the outside of our office, we hope to inspire people in the local area and those passing to reflect more on Alzheimer’s, seek out additional information, and consider what their own plans might look like should they or a loved one be affected."
According to research from the World Alzheimer’s Society, there are currently estimated to be 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is projected to rise to 1.4 million in 2040.
