No trains to Manchester over next two weekends

There will be no trains between Glossop/Hadfield and Manchester Piccadilly over the next two weekends as a major rail upgrade takes place

The Network Rail engineering work, taking place on Saturday 8th August to Sunday 9th August and Saturday 15th August to Sunday 16th August, will see new equipment installed at Guide Bridge as part of a significant investment to improve the reliability of the railway.

The upgrades involve work on a section of track that connects two lines, allowing trains to move more smoothly around the network in the future.

Rail replacement buses will operate throughout both weekends. An express replacement bus service will run between Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield, although it will NOT call at Hattersley or Broadbottom.

A separate minibus service will run between Godley and Hadfield, stopping at all stations along the route.

Lorna Samways, Network Rail's senior sponsor, said: "We know there's never an ideal time to shut the railway, so I'd like to thank passengers in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential railway improvements over the next two weekends.

"The project at Guide Bridge is a major investment to improve rail journeys for passengers and freight in future. I'd advise passengers planning to travel on August 8-9 and 15-16 to check National Rail Enquiries so they know exactly what to expect from their journey."
