Later this month, MPs will get to vote on introducing assisted dying in Britain.
It will be a free vote on November 29, 2024. This means that MPs will be free to vote individually based on their conscience.
High Peak MP, Jon Pearce, is asking local residents for their views on the issue to help him decide how to vote.
Mr Pearce said: “I recognise that this is a highly complex and emotive issue and I know there are strongly held ethical and moral views on both sides of the debate.
“I am genuinely open minded about this issue. In principle I can see there are certain limited circumstances where people should be able to choose how to end their life rather than suffer an intolerable and uncertain death. However, I worry that our palliative and end of life care is not currently good enough to support assisted dying and ensure there are proper safeguards.
“This vote won’t be whipped. So I really want to hear as many views as possible before I vote.”
