Mettrick’s Butchers of Glossop have once again proven they’re at the top of their craft - winning “Best Game Product” in the prestigious National Craft Butchers Awards 2025.
Their Venison, Pancetta & Red Wine Pie impressed an expert panel of judges during blind tastings held at Harper Adams University in September. Competing against game products from across the country, Mettrick’s creation stood out for its depth of flavour, perfect balance, and exceptional quality.

John Mettrick, Managing Director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring this national award back to Glossop. Venison is a wonderfully healthy, sustainable meat - high in nutrition and low in cholesterol - and we should all be eating more of it. This award is a real testament to the skill and dedication of our team.”
The trophy and certificates were presented by Executive Councillor and Past National President David Gigli to proud bakers Duncan Edge and Sam Macklin, who crafted the award-winning pie.
Customers can now try the winning Venison Pie in-store at Mettrick’s, or request a sample to be sent out - a perfect opportunity to taste a true national champion.
Established in Glossop, Mettrick’s is a family-run butcher renowned for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship, animal welfare, and high-quality local produce. The business has earned numerous accolades over the years for its innovation and excellence in meat products.
