A man allegedly spat at a police officer whilst another man was being arrested in Gamesley.
Glossop Police's Safer Neighbourhood Team say the man initially being arrested was wanted for a handling offence of obtaining a wrongful credit.
But then another man "involved himself in the arrest" and spat at one of the officers in the face, they said.
He was then subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
A post on Glossop Police SNT's Facebook page added: "This is not what we come to work for, especially during a global pandemic."
The incident happened on Tuesday (9 February).
