Local author Johanne Lee visited All Saints Catholic Voluntary Academy earlier this month, to inspire pupils to discover their own creative voices through poetry.
During her visit, Johanne encouraged the children to explore imaginative writing and shared insights into her journey as a published poet and children’s author. The school’s PTA kindly donated £100 following the event, which Johanne will pass on to local charity Reuben's Retreat - continuing her long-standing commitment to fundraising through her writing.
Headteacher Mrs Beaumont welcomed the visit, which forms part of the school’s wider efforts to promote creativity and literacy.
Originally from Droylsden, Johanne moved to Glossop more than 20 years ago and has since become a well-known figure in the local literary community. It was during the Covid pandemic that she decided to bring her poems together into published collections and become more actively involved in poetry groups.
“Poetry has become a daily practice for me,” she said. “I love poetry and found a way with the picture books to raise awareness in early years settings of things like conservation and kindness.”
All proceeds from Johanne’s books are donated to charities close to her heart, including Mummy’s Star, Reuben’s Retreat and Crossroads Derbyshire. Through her work, she not only raises funds but also introduces important topics to young readers, encouraging kindness, compassion and care for the natural world.
Johanne’s growing collection of work continues to raise awareness, and vital funds, for both local and national causes, while inspiring the next generation of writers.
