High Peak MP Jon Pearce has announced the launch of his first ever ‘High Peak Dog of the Year’ competition.
Dog owners across the constituency are invited to showcase their four-legged friends by submitting a photo and a fun ‘Doggy CV’ celebrating their pet’s personality, quirks and achievements.
On 30 September 2025, a panel will select the top twelve dogs, who will each feature in a special charity calendar to be sold later this year. Every winning dog will receive a prize, and the public will then have the chance to vote for their overall favourite. The dog with the most votes will be crowned the very first High Peak Dog of the Year, with the winner announced in early November.
All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go directly to the RSPCA Tameside and Glossop branch, where Jon Pearce serves as Vice President for the Glossop area. Jon has been a longstanding supporter of the RSPCA’s work rescuing, rehoming and caring for animals in need, and hopes the competition will raise both funds and awareness for animal welfare locally.
Jon Pearce MP said: “As a proud dog owner and animal lover, I wanted to create a fun competition to celebrate some of the wonderful dogs we’re lucky to have here in High Peak - while also raising money for one of High Peak’s local RSPCA branch. I can’t wait to see all the entries, and I wish every dog (and their owners) the very best of luck!”
Irene Platt, Honorary Chair of RSPCA Tameside and Glossop Branch said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Jon on the High Peak Dog of the Year competition. Not only will this be a fantastic way to celebrate the much-loved pets in our community, but the funds raised will make a real difference to the animals we care for every day. Every entry will help us continue our vital work rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need across Tameside and Glossop.”
