Introducing young children from Glossop to an exciting sport

Glossop Squash has signed up to a national initiative to get more local young girls and boys from Glossop taking up squash, and trying a new sport.

The six-week programme starting on 20 October at Glossop Leisure Centre, will introduce children aged 5-9 to the fun game of squash.

All Squash Stars will receive six group coaching sessions, and a free racket, a ball, bag and goggles to help them get in the game - all for £42.

Squash Stars will help children learn the fundamental skills to play squash, and develop hand-eye coordination, racket work, movement and match play through action-packed fun games and drills delivered by by specially trained leaders.

The sport of squash has risen in prominence over the last year, following the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Games saw England win its first ever gold medal in the women’s squash singles thanks to Gina Kennedy.

England Squash - the national governing body of squash - along with participating squash clubs, are working hard to maintain that momentum and are encouraging young people up-and-down the country to try the sport through Squash Stars.

Parents can now enrol their child onto the programme via www.squashstars.co.uk
