Hummingbirds host feel-good fashion show

The Hummingbird Project 'Fashion Show and Frock Swap'.

A community fashion show with a difference has proved a resounding success, raising more than £1,000 for a local charity, while bringing people together for an evening of sustainable style.

The Hummingbird Project hosted their “Fashion Show and Frock Swap” at Empire on Thursday 16th April, combining a showcase of pre-loved outfits with a clothes swap, and encouraging people to refresh their wardrobes while reducing waste.

Organisers had promised a lively, feel-good evening - and the evening did not disappoint!

Models of all ages, from as young as two years old to older participants, took to the catwalk in a variety of outfits, ranging from casual everyday wear to more glamorous looks. Many were drawn from across the local community, including representatives from Glossopdale Foodbank, Gamesley Excellence Centre, Buxton Community Hub, local schools, Centre Stage Dance Academy, the Social Butterflies group and the charity’s own volunteers.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was described as warm and supportive, with guests enjoying not only the fashion show but also the opportunity to take part in the clothes swap - exchanging good-quality pre-loved items for something new to them.

The evening highlighted the growing interest in sustainable fashion, with the clothes swap offering a practical way for people to reduce waste.

More than £1,000 was generated during the night, supporting the charity’s ongoing work to create positive social impact locally.

Organisers have already been asked when the next event will take place, reflecting the enthusiasm from those who attended, with Councillor Barbara Hastings-Asatourian summing up the mood, saying she always leaves Hummingbird events feeling uplifted.

Hummingbird founder Jo Gregory thanked everyone who took part - from models and volunteers to guests and supporters, for helping make the event such a success.
