Hummingbird Project launch Christmas Gift Appeal

Hummingbird Project founder Jo Gregory with a member of the Kwik Fit Glossop Team

Each year, The Hummingbird Project in Glossop brings a welcome touch of warmth to the winter season through its cherished Christmas Gift Appeal.

While Christmas is often portrayed as a time of celebration, it can also be a period of strain and worry for individuals and families experiencing hardship. The Gift Appeal aims to ease that burden by ensuring no one in the community feels overlooked during the festive period.

The scheme invites donations of new, unwrapped presents for children, young people, and adults. These gifts are carefully matched and distributed to households where a little extra support can make a world of difference.

From toys that light up a child’s Christmas morning to practical winter essentials or thoughtful self-care items for adults, every contribution has the power to uplift someone’s holiday.

Over the past five years, an astonishing 40,000 gifts have been re-gifted to local people - an achievement that speaks to the generosity of Glossopdale’s residents.

Taking part is straightforward. Supporters can buy and donate gifts, drop them at collection points across the town, or contribute financially so volunteers can fill any gaps.

Businesses, schools, and community organisations are also encouraged to get involved by hosting collection boxes or running festive fundraising events.

Founder Jo Gregory said, “Each year we distribute around 7,000 to 10,000 gifts to the local community. We are so thankful to the people of Glossopdale who donate so generously every year, as well as local businesses such as Tesco, Cask and Kitchen and Glossop Pub Watch who run collections for us, and our Christmas Sponsors this year which include the amazing Ryder & Dutton, DJ Pape and Associates, Up North Printing and Kwik Fit Glossop.

The need continues to grow, but so does the kindness of our community. Times are tough right now, but together we can make Christmas brighter for everyone.”

The Hummingbird Project Hub is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
