Hospice invites public to learn more

Sarah Sewell, Community Engagement Officer at Blythe House Hospice.

Blythe House Hospice is once again opening its doors throughout 2026 for popular 'Talking Tours'.

The sessions started in January 2025 and give local people the opportunity to visit the hospice in Chapel-en-le-Frith, have a tour of facilities, and meet the team.

Throughout last year, 31 people took part in the monthly events, including members of the public and healthcare professionals. Many attendees went on to access services at the hospice; apply to become a volunteer, or refer their own patients for support.

Following their success throughout last year, Talking Tours are back for 2026, with dates set throughout the year, starting on Thursday 22nd January.

Sarah Sewell, Community Engagement Officer at Blythe House Hospice, is the mastermind behind the events. She said: “Throughout 2025, our Talking Tours were a wonderful success, helping us open our doors and conversations to people from all walks of life and of all ages. They give us the opportunity to explain what modern hospice care really looks like, and to challenge some of the common misconceptions people may have.

“Blythe House Hospice does not have inpatient beds, but we are very much a hospice at the heart of our community. We provide specialist care to people in their own homes across North Derbyshire through our Hospice at Home and Roaming Car services, supporting individuals who wish to die at home and offering vital care and reassurance to their families at a time when they need it most.

“During our Talking Tours, visitors can look around the hospice and learn how we support people from the point of diagnosis with a life-limiting illness, right through to bereavement support. Our teams explain how we deliver truly tailored, individual care, and there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions and meet the people behind our services.

“We are delighted to be bringing our Talking Tours back in 2026 and would encourage anyone who is curious about our work, or wants to better understand the support we provide, to come along and join us for a warm welcome.”
