History made as Pride comes to Glossop

Glossop is set to make history this summer as the town prepares to host its very first Pride celebration in Norfolk Square.

Glossop Pride will take place on Saturday 13th June, bringing together the town’s LGBTQ+ community alongside the wider community for a day celebrating joy, diversity and togetherness. Organisers hope the event will create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy.

Norfolk Square will host a full day of entertainment and activities, beginning with a community picnic where visitors are encouraged to bring along their favourite food and enjoy performances from talented local entertainers.

There will also be plenty of family-friendly attractions throughout the day, including face painting, community stalls, fairground rides and prizes to be won. Rebel Dog Training will also be joining the celebrations with a dog show later in the afternoon.

As the daytime festivities come to an end, celebrations will continue into the evening with an official after-party at Pico Lounge. Local drag performer Angela Bra will host her “Absolutely Dabulous” Drag Bingo show, with special guests expected to appear throughout the night as the party atmosphere continues.

Organisers say the event is particularly important for Glossop, as many LGBTQ+ people living in smaller towns can often feel isolated, with the majority of LGBTQ+ spaces and events usually centred around larger cities. They believe hosting a Pride event locally is a positive way to bring people together and promote solidarity, support and inclusivity within the community.

Glossop LGBTQ+, the volunteer-run social group behind the event, regularly organises social activities aimed at creating a safe and welcoming space for local people. The group relies entirely on fundraising and donations to organise events and hopes the town’s first Pride celebration will be a major success after months of hard work behind the scenes.

Organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to attend and hope Glossop Pride will become a much-loved annual event for the town in years to come. You can more details on their Facebook page: Glossop LGBTQ+
