High Peak MP supports 'Two weeks isn't enough' campaign

John Pearce MP visited Glossop North End to raise awareness

High Peak MP Jon Pearce is backing a campaign that calls for better paternity leave.

He explains, “The UK has the worst paternity leave in Europe - just two weeks at less than half the minimum wage. That isn't enough and that’s why, in collaboration with The Dad Shift, I’m campaigning for better paternity leave.”

“To raise awareness, I took baby grows up to Mam Tor at sunset, and also hung them up at Buxton FC and Glossop North End, who both do great work in the community. They’re being hung all around the country so keep your eye out for them!“

“Behind this stunt and the headline are the shocking facts that show how the UK's paternity leave is affecting families and dads' mental health.”

“I know how challenging becoming a Dad is (no matter how many times you do it!). The research shows nearly half of new fathers experience symptoms of depression or anxiety in their baby's first year.”

“Over 80% of fathers say better paternity leave is the no.1 thing the government could do to protect parents' mental health. So I’m doing everything I can to do just that.”

The The Dad Shift is gathering stories from dads who've struggled with their mental health, to make the case for better paternity leave in the Government's Men's Health Strategy. If you've experienced this, please do share your story with them at: dadshift.org.uk/mentalhealth
