High Peak Green New Deal group gather in Glossop to oppose the Mottram bypass

High Peak Green New Deal supporters gathered in Norfolk Square last week, to express continued opposition to what they call the expensive Mottram/Glossop bypass farce.

The group are against the upcoming multimillion pound bypass which aims to tackle the traffic issues in the area.

Peter Allen, spokesperson for the group said “The road scheme will do little or nothing to reduce congestion and air pollution in Glossopdale. It will certainly not help the long suffering residents of Hollingworth and Tintwistle.

The money would be far better spent investing in public transport and other public services. The accelerating Global Climate Emergency means that we should be drastically reducing private car use, not encouraging it. Our children, grandchildren and future generations will not thank us for building new roads when we knew global temperatures were spiralling out of control”.
