Jack Badger Ltd, the renowned traditional joinery company based in Old Glossop, has taken another significant step in its ongoing growth by securing full ownership of the Hawkshead building on Hope Street.
The acquisition marks a major milestone for the firm, providing a long-term home for its expanding workshop and specialist facilities.
Founded in 2005 by Managing Director Ben Naylor, Jack Badger began life in his family’s hay barn at Allmans Heath Farm. The company operated from the farm for 15 years before moving to Hawkshead in 2020, initially purchasing half of the building. At that time, the team consisted of 12 staff and the move represented a transformative leap forward.
Since then, the company has more than doubled its workforce, taken on increasingly complex commissions, and expanded its reach to international markets, taking on bespoke joinery projects in Europe and the United States.
In 2024, Jack Badger rented an additional section of the Hawkshead building, converting it into new office space along with dedicated carving and finishing rooms. This year, the opportunity arose to purchase that space—along with the remainder of the building—securing the entire unit for the company’s future.
“This investment reflects our commitment to the craft, our team, and the long-term vision for Jack Badger,” said Managing Director Ben Naylor. “Owning the full Hawkshead site gives us the stability and space we need to continue leading the way in bespoke handmade joinery.”
The company’s growth has also created new employment opportunities, with Jack Badger now recruiting for several roles across the workshop and office.
Jack Badger’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. The firm has been named in Country Life’s prestigious Top 100 list for the second consecutive year, recognising the UK’s leading architects, interior designers, garden designers, and craftspeople shaping and preserving exceptional homes and landscapes. The company has also won the Glossop and High Peak Business Award for Best SME for two years running.
With its expanded premises, growing team, and increasing international presence, Jack Badger continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the UK’s foremost traditional joinery specialists.
