Glossopdale Foodbank welcomes new trustees amid rising demand

Glossopdale Foodbank.

Glossopdale Foodbank has announced the appointment of three new trustees, following what organisers described as an “excellent” response to a recent recruitment drive.

Foodbank Manager Liz Kearslake said the charity was delighted to welcome “three outstanding local people” to its management committee. “They bring great skills, experience and enthusiasm,” she said.

Liz explained that the role of a charity trustee is becoming increasingly challenging, as the organisation prepares for growing demand and financial pressures.

“Being a charity trustee these days is no mean task,” she added. “Our foodbank, like many other charities and organisations, is bracing itself for difficult times ahead. Rising oil and food prices mean that one of our main priorities is fundraising, so we can maintain the services we currently provide.”

Demand for support continues to increase. In March alone, the foodbank provided nearly 4,500 meals - a five per cent rise compared to the same period last year.

While proud of the support it offers, the charity says it is also saddened by the growing need within the community.

People turn to the foodbank for a range of reasons, including unemployment, low wages, delays or reductions in benefits, debt and ill health. For some, organisers say, the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis are nothing new.

Liz added: “Our heartfelt thanks go to all the generous people, businesses and churches across Glossopdale whose continued support helps keep us afloat.”
