Glossop to get Temporary Banking Hub

After years without reliable in-person banking services following the closure of local branches, Glossop will get a Temporary Banking Hub at Bradbury Community House on Market Street.

Opening on Friday, 9 January 2026, the hub will operate from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, restoring access to face-to-face banking for residents and small businesses.

The hub is part of Cash Access UK’s nationwide network of shared banking spaces, designed to provide basic banking services to communities that have lost traditional bank branches. Customers of all major banks and building societies will be able to carry out regular cash transactions at a counter service operated by the Post Office.

In addition to routine transactions, the hub will feature a community banker service, allowing customers to speak with representatives from different banks about more complex issues, such as payments, transfers, account management, and online banking.

Each day of the week will feature a different bank: Lloyds (Monday), NatWest (Tuesday), HSBC (Wednesday), and Barclays (Thursday).

Services available at the hub include:

  • Withdrawing and depositing cash (notes and coins) and cheques

  • Checking balances

  • Paying utility bills

Cash Access UK is a not-for-profit organisation funded by major high street banks. Its hubs and other services aim to support the millions of people in the UK who still rely on cash for their day-to-day lives. Dr Chris Ashton, Chief Commercial Officer at LINK, said:

"While more people are choosing to bank and pay for things digitally, we know that many people still rely and choose to use cash and face-to-face banking. There are over one hundred hubs open across the country and when it opens, the Glossop banking hub will be vital for the local community and high street."

The move comes amid a wider national shift toward online-only banking, which has raised concerns for older residents, small businesses, and others who rely on in-person support. High Peak MP Jon Pearce has been campaigning for the hub, saying:

“By next year, all banks will remove their branches from Glossop. For many people, that loss has been deeply worrying. Access to cash and in person banking is not a luxury, it is essential, particularly for older residents, small businesses, and anyone who cannot easily bank online. I have consistently made the case that Glossop should not be left behind. I have worked closely with LINK and Cash Access UK, attended local drop-in sessions, and pressed the case for this hub by showing the strength of local demand. I am really pleased that those efforts have now resulted in plans being set in motion. This Temporary Banking Hub will make a real difference to people’s day to day lives, and I will continue to push for practical solutions that protect vital local services.”
