Glossop Tennis Club goes green

Glossop Tennis Club has taken a major step towards a greener, more sustainable future.

The club is installing 32 Aiko Neostar 2S 465 W solar panels on the clubhouse roof, creating a 14.88 kW solar PV system.

The new system is expected to generate around 10,837 kWh of clean electricity every year, reducing the club’s carbon footprint by approximately 2,244 kg of CO₂ annually - equivalent to a car driving 8,000 miles or the CO₂ absorbed by more than 100 trees in a year.

Thanks to the efforts of Vice Chairman Rob Millington, the club secured a £10,000 grant from the High Peak UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This generous funding covered around 80% of the project cost, allowing Glossop Tennis Club to invest in sustainability without putting pressure on club finances

Electricity is one of the club’s largest running costs. The new solar panels will generate renewable energy and allow any surplus to be sold back to the grid. Over time, this will reduce electricity bills significantly, freeing up funds for coaching programmes, junior development, and improvements to courts and facilities.

Specialist installers Ask Renewables carried out the work, which was completed last month. A new meter was also fitted to track and sell the energy produced.

The club extends its thanks to everyone involved - from the High Peak UK Shared Prosperity Fund for vital support to volunteers who helped with planning and paperwork

This is a proud moment for Glossop Tennis Club. By investing in clean energy, the club is protecting its finances and helping the environment, ensuring it remains strong, welcoming, and sustainable for years to come.
