Glossop Parish Church turns plastic tubs into charity funds

Congratulations to Glossop Parish Church for its fantastic community effort in helping save nearly 400 plastic tubs from landfill as part of a national recycling scheme.

The church has served as a local collection hub for the Tub2Pub initiative, bringing together church members, local residents, and people from the wider community to support the campaign. Organisers have thanked everyone who contributed to what they described as an “amazing collection,” which will raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

All proceeds from the recycled tubs go directly to the charity, which provides essential care and support for people living with cancer.

The Tub2Pub scheme, run by Greene King pubs nationwide, encourages people to recycle clean, empty plastic confectionery and biscuit tubs—items that are often not accepted by kerbside recycling. Instead of ending up in landfill, the polypropylene tubs are collected and converted into funds for a good cause.

Over the past five years, the campaign has collected more than 470,000 tubs, diverting over 26 tonnes of plastic from landfill and raising more than £34,000 for Macmillan. In 2025 alone, a record-breaking 240,000 tubs were collected across the country.
