Glossop opticians launch annual reading competition

An opticians in Glossop is helping local children get their eyes ready for the new school year with the return of its annual back-to-school competition.

Running from now until Sunday 6th September, children under 16 who attend Specsavers Glossop for an eye examination will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a 12-month children’s book subscription from competition partner Dark Peak Books & Gifts.

The initiative, which forms part of the store’s annual Read a Book Week, aims to encourage parents and carers to make eye health part of their preparations for the new school year, while also celebrating the importance of reading.

Good vision plays an important role in children’s learning, with much of the information they encounter in the classroom presented visually - whether they are reading books, looking at a whiteboard or using digital devices.

Nawaz Moin, dispensing optician director at Specsavers Glossop, says: "The start of a new school year is a great opportunity for parents to think about their child’s eye health and make sure they’re ready for everything the classroom has in store.

"We’re delighted to be working with Dark Peak Books & Gifts again for our annual competition. Reading and good vision go hand in hand, so a year’s supply of books feels like the perfect prize to help encourage a love of reading.

Children under 16 can be entered into the competition when they attend an eye examination at Specsavers Glossop up to Sunday 6th September. Eye examinations must already be due and cannot be brought forward early solely for entry into the competition.
