After 16 months of planning, hard work and community support, Glossop Mountain Rescue Team is proud to announce the successful completion of its ambitious Vehicle Plan.
Thanks to the dedication of team members, volunteers, and the generosity of several businesses, the team has added two upgraded Land Rover Defenders to its fleet - boosting their ability to respond to emergencies across the High Peak.
The £150,000 project saw the team purchase two low-mileage 110 Puma Land Rover Defenders, which have since been fully converted to mountain rescue specifications through a detailed nine-month evaluation and upgrade process.
Each vehicle now features:
🔹 Emergency services livery by Glossop-based Interlith
🔹 Custom rear storage racking from Wray Engineering
🔹 Electrical system upgrades including blue lights, sirens and scene lighting installed by Autolec HD Ltd of Huddersfield
🔹 Dash and reversing cameras supplied by Park Safe Automotive Ltd
🔹 Scene lighting from Stedi UK Ltd
🔹 Full-length roof racks and access ladders fitted by Safety Devices
🔹 Glossop’s Reliance Garage prepared and serviced both vehicles, playing a vital role throughout the conversion process.
In addition to the new vehicles, the project included significant upgrades to the existing fleet:
🔹 All vehicles and charge points were upgraded with Ludo McGurk charge management systems
🔹 Chassis were ice-blasted and treated by ICE Blasters Dry Ice Specialists Northampton to extend vehicle lifespan
🔹 Vehicle radios were modernised by CSE Cross Com to improve communication and user interface
🔹 Bodywork on existing fleet vehicles was completed by Brookfield Motors
Despite the scale of the upgrades, the team managed to bring the entire project in well under budget, offering excellent value for money for the charity.
Sharing a thank you post on social media, the team said they now feel confident that they have a fleet of vehicles which will serve them well for the decades ahead and enable them to continue to do the work they do as best as they can.
The project was made possible by a generous legacy left by the late Doreen Lowe, as well as ongoing fundraising efforts from the public. The team would like to thank all those involved, saying “We could not have done all this without the amazing fundraising which many people have done and continue to do for us throughout the year.”
To give the community a closer look at what their support has helped achieve, Glossop Mountain Rescue will be showcasing the new vehicles at the Glossop Car Show in Manor Park on 31 August. Visitors will have the chance to explore the vehicles and also watch free CPR and medical demonstrations throughout the day.
