Glossop guitar raffle strikes a chord for charity

Dave Wharmby of Grizzly’s Pickin Fix.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team is striking a new chord with its festive fundraising this year, thanks to the generosity of a local craftsman.

Alongside its traditional Christmas activities, the team has received a specially built Telecaster-style guitar donated by Dave Wharmby of Grizzly’s Pickin Fix, a Glossop-based guitar repair, maintenance and build service. The bespoke instrument will be raffled off over the Christmas period to help raise vital funds for the volunteer rescue team.

Raffle tickets are available for £5 each and can be purchased in person at the team’s Glossop Santa events or online via the crowdfunding link provided. The draw will close on 20 December at 9pm, with the winner selected at random and announced in time for a Christmas collection. The team says the guitar would make a standout festive gift and has expressed its thanks to Dave for his generous support.

The guitar features an impressive range of custom upgrades, including:
• Telecaster-style design
• Poplar body
• Maple neck
• Bone nut
• Vintage ’64 alnico pickups
• Vintage wiring
• Full-size CTS 250k pots
• 0.047uf orange drop capacitor
• Wilkinson compensated brass saddles
• Top-hat volume and tone knobs
• Set up with D’Addario XL 10–46 strings

Residents can purchase raffle tickets and support the team’s annual fundraising efforts and operational costs by visiting the Crowdfunding page:

Glossop Mountain Rescue is a voluntary organisation that relies entirely on public donations. The team exists to rescue lost and injured people across Glossop and the wider Peak District and is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All members are volunteers, and all funds raised go directly towards keeping the team operational.
