Glossop Car Show promises a day out for all the family

Glossop Vehicle Enthusiast Club is gearing up for its annual car show in Manor Park on Sunday, August 30th, with organisers promising one of the biggest and most varied events yet.

Louise Robertson, speaking on behalf of the club, said the show has grown far beyond a traditional car meet and now brings together classic motors, modern modified vehicles, live music, food stalls and family activities, all while raising money for local good causes. 

GVEC, which stands for Glossop Vehicle Enthusiast Club, welcomes owners of any make of car and even those without a vehicle of their own. Louise said the club is built around socialising as much as motoring, with regular drives, holidays and breakfast meets helping to keep members connected. 

“We take any marque of car. Even if you haven’t got a car, you’re very welcome to join the club,” she said.

This year’s event will feature live music from Phil Stock and friends, performances from Glossop Old Band, appearances by the High Peak Mayor and Consort and displays from Glossop Mountain Rescue and the police. Organisers are also hoping to welcome the fire service, with one of the day’s popular attractions expected to be a live car cut-up demonstration. 

Visitors will also find craft stalls, a tombola, a raffle, and a wide range of food including pizzas, bacon baps, coffee and cakes. A model railway in Manor Park and an ice cream van will add to the family-friendly atmosphere. 

Louise said the event is designed to appeal to all ages, with everything from 1950s and 1960s classics to brightly coloured 1980s and 1990s modified cars on display. 

“There’s so much more for people to enjoy on the day,” she said. “Yes, it is a car show, but there’s so much more to it.” 

The show also has a strong charity focus, with proceeds split between Reuben’s Retreat, a children’s hospice in Glossop, and Blythe House Hospice in Chapel-en-le-Frith. Last year, the event raised £725 for each charity. 

Louise said the club is proud to give back to the community while also helping to bring visitors into Glossop. 

“It’s got to be good for Glossop’s economy as well,” she said. “People come in from all over, so hopefully they’ll visit the shops in Glossop as well as just coming to the car show.” 

The event takes place on Sunday, August 1st, from 10:30am-3:30pm.
