Further weekend travel disruption on Mottram Moor

Motorists are preparing for another weekend of traffic delays as essential utility diversion work continues on Mottram Moor, as part of the ongoing A57 Link Road Scheme.

Low-pressure gas mains and electricity diversion works are being carried out over four consecutive weekends, with traffic management in place from 6am Saturday until 6am Monday. The upcoming weekend, 18–20 October, will be the fourth and final weekend of the planned works.

Traffic will again be reduced to a single lane in both the eastbound and westbound directions of Mottram Moor.

Last weekend, drivers experienced long queues exacerbated by temporary traffic lights on Roe Cross Road being stuck on red for hours, as well as a partial closure of the M62.

A spokesperson for National Highways said:

“We are aware of the traffic disruption in the area at the weekend and are sorry to hear this has impacted on journey times.

“We are carrying out essential utility diversion work on Mottram Moor as part of the ongoing A57 Link Roads scheme. This has been scheduled to take place across four weekends to avoid disruption during the week to the community, businesses and schools. The work will be completed this weekend.

“The closure of the M62 westbound following a collision on Saturday afternoon also caused delays as traffic was diverted across our network, including the Woodhead Pass and A57.”

National Highways confirmed they will continue to work closely with partners to minimise the impact on road users and thanked the public for their patience while these essential works are completed.
