A free film exploring the impact of climate change on our everyday lives is to be shown in Padfield this month, with everyone invited to attend.
Following a successful screening in July, The People’s Emergency Briefing is returning to Padfield Congregational Church after organisers were encouraged to show the film again.
The first screening, held in July, attracted a strong turnout, but with schools only just having broken up and many families away on holiday, organisers decided to offer another opportunity for local people to see the film.
Running for just 50 minutes, The People’s Emergency Briefing is described as an informative and thought-provoking look at climate change and global warming. Presented by Chris Packham, it features the latest information from nine leading UK scientists and experts, examining what a changing climate could mean for food security, health, the cost of living and the wider economy.
The film combines facts and figures with a touch of humour, including contributions from comedian and actress Jennifer Saunders, and looks at some of the impacts of climate change that are already being experienced.
It also offers practical suggestions about things individuals and communities can do now to help make a difference.
Organisers hope the screening will provide an opportunity for people to learn more about the issue and consider what climate change could mean for future generations.
“Climate change is happening and it is already affecting us” say the organisers. “How will our children get along if we don’t try to slow down and adapt to the big changes we have witnessed so far?”
The screening will be followed by an informal question-and-answer session and discussion, giving attendees the chance to exchange ideas and talk about what they have seen. Tea, coffee and some “really good local cake” will also be available.
The free screening takes place at Padfield Congregational Church, Temple Street, Padfield, on Saturday 19th September, from 2pm to 4pm.
Everyone is welcome, including young people aged 16 and over.
The event has been organised in collaboration with Padfield Community Spaces, Padfield Residents’ Society and Padfield Congregational Church.
