Four arrested after grenade report leads to evacuation

Four men have been arrested after around 20 homes were evacuated following reports that a grenade may have been present at an address in Glossop. 

A large police presence was seen on Queen Street during the early hours of Thursday 28th August, with the road taped off as officers dealt with the incident. 

At 10:30am: Derbyshire Constabulary issued the following statement: 

"Four men have been arrested after a number of houses were evacuated in Glossop this morning. 

We were called to reports that a grenade may have been present at an address in Queen Street in the early hours of this morning (28 August). 

Officers attended the address and arrested a man on suspicion of being in possession of a prohibited weapon. 

Around 20 homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure before the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Division attended the scene and found that the device was not a risk. All residents have now been allowed to return to their homes. 

Three other men have been arrested by officers at two properties in Shrewsbury Street in connection with the incident. All three men have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. 

All four men arrested remain in police custody while enquiries continue. 

A police presence will remain in the area while the investigation continues, however, there is no wider risk to the public."
