Dive in with new 'Swim & Social' sessions

Glossop charity The Bureau has teamed up with High Peak charity Zink and MyActive Glossop to encourage people to return to swimming, or try it for the first time.

The initiative, Glossop 'Swim & Social' which is funded by Sport England, is offering free entry alongside complimentary tuition and coaching.

The project is in response to a decline in swimming participation since the Covid pandemic, with Sport England providing funding to help more people regain confidence in the water and improve their wellbeing.

Graham Morgan, Service Development Manager at The Bureau, said: “We’re excited to get this joint project with Glossop Swimming and Fitness Centre off the ground. It’s a great opportunity to get back to swimming if you’ve not been for a while, to improve technique, and for anyone who can’t swim to receive free tuition.”

The weekly sessions are open to everyone and include free entry to the swimming pool for the first three sessions, free swim coaching to improve technique or free swim tuition for all of 2026. Additional support is also available to help participants purchase swimwear, along with a free tea or coffee after each session.

Sarah Johnson from MyActive Glossop added: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with The Bureau and Zink to welcome new faces into our pool. Our mission is to make swimming accessible, enjoyable and affordable for all, and this is a great way to start.”

Glossop Swim & Social takes place every Saturday from 12pm to 1pm at Glossop Swimming Pool. To register, visit The Bureau at 22 Henry Street, Glossop, or call 01457 865722.

The Bureau runs a wide range of weekly activities, including coffee mornings, community projects, walking groups, life skills courses and social events, all aimed at helping people take positive steps in their lives. Its work is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers.
